Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, also known as Ahmedabad Airport (IATA: AMD; ICAO: VAAH) is the International airport of the Indian cities of Ahmedabad, Guajarat and Gandhinagar. It is the 8th busiest airport in India and it operates fluently with GoAir and Jet Airways. Located in Hansol, 9 km from the northern Ahmedabad, the airport was renamed in honour to the Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Ahmedabad is a city which is growing its business and economic status with a rich city history. If you are travelling to Ahmedabad or you have some hours to kill in there, there are a few trip tips you can use. You should if you can stop by Dada Harir ni Vav, with public transport access, and open from 9h, it is a stepwell (pond with steps from where the water descends) made of sandstone in the style of Solanki architecture and it has 500 years.. They are located about 16 km driving from Ahmedabad city centre, these stepwells are well known within the region. Also, there is the mosque of Sultani just behind the stepwell.

The Vintage Car Museum is also another attraction if you are a fan of automobiles. The Museum also allaws visitors to drive a ride with the car they want paying a small fee.
Sabarmati Ashram is another must-see attraction, definetely. It was one of the residences of Mahatma Gandhi, where he lived during 12 years with his wife, and also partly a museum. In 1930, it started the famous Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram.

Ahmedabad Airport has 2 Terminals: Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). It is a small airport comparing to other biggers like Mumbai Airport, but it also has Terminal Services such as restaurants and dutty free shops.

In 2016, Ahmedabad Airport (AMD) handled 7, 405, 282 million passengers. In 2015 Indian Government started the privatisation of the airport. The plan includes that AMD Airport will be replaced by the upcoming Dholera International Airport.

New Airport

The substitute of Ahmedabad Airport, Dholera International Airport, it is the new airport plan which will be built near Navagam, Dholera taluka within Ahmedabad district. It is expected to be operative by the 2018.

Transport

From Ahmedabad Airport (AMD) there is an express Metro under construction which will lead you to Gandhinagar and to Ahmedabad cities. It is expected to be complete in 2020. Nowadays you can travel from Ahmedabad Airport to Ahmedabad city centre with taxi, car rental or bus.
